Rawson & Evans Changeable Letter Sign
Jeff Lang picked up this nifty little piece of American sign history at an antique store a while back. His comments are below the photos.

The image above are the instructions that came with the letters. The letters came in an organizer box , seen below, along with a close-up of a couple of the letters. Instructions are in to the top of the lid.
"This could possibly be one of the first changeable letter lighted signs on the market. The kit was supplied with many letters & numbers of one style of lettering with all of the punctuation & symbols. Each letter plate measures 1¾" x 4½", making the overall size of the cabinet approximately 16" tall x 52" long. The cabinet pictured but not included, appeared to be leaded glass with 24 tracks for lettering and wired with four lights, & the description says the unit would flash. The white glass was to be inserted first vertically then the letter on top would slide into the track held in place by gravity. half sizes plates & blanks were included as well. A thin layer of lead covers the back of the letter plates, for opacity I suppose.

As stated on the inside of the lid, "There positively is no other Changeable Letter Sign made that will compare with this sign in either attractive appearance, substantial construction or practicable nature." No date was found on the piece."
